Our Mission & Vision

At MD For Accuracy, we bring clarity and integrity to the medical-legal space through expert, unbiased peer review and consulting. By partnering with attorneys, risk managers, insurers, and organizations, we provide independent physician expertise that supports clinical accuracy, delivers careful analysis, and offers clear, evidence-based insights. Our goal is to be the trusted national resource for resolving complex medical questions with confidence, transparency, and integrity.

1. Scope of Consulting

As a consulting physician with MD For Accuracy, you may fill many roles, some of which are:

•Peer reviewer

•Incident investigator

•Non-disclosed consulting expert

•Testifying expert

•Special project advisor

In each instance, our goal is to provide timely, accurate, and unbiased opinions to our client, who may be plaintiffs’ attorneys, defense attorneys, prosecutors, hospital leadership, risk managers, insurers, claims managers, and in-house legal counsel for hospital institutions.

2. Service Standards

We ask every consultant to uphold:

Responsiveness – Timely replies and prompt completion of reviews and communications.

Completeness – Thorough, well-supported evaluations and documentation.

Ethical Practice – Objective, evidence-based analysis with no conflicts of interest.

Value Awareness – Provide recommendations mindful of the client’s request.

Professional Service – Treat all clients and colleagues with respect, clarity, and professionalism.

3. Support: Physician Services

Our team is here to support your work. If you encounter challenges or need assistance, please contact us at: memberservices@mdforaccuracy.com.

4. Initial Inquiry: Case Match & Scope

At times, we will reach out to ask if a case aligns with your expertise. If it does not, that’s perfectly fine—we only assign cases where you feel confident.

When you accept, we may ask:

•Which records you would need to complete your review.

•Your best estimate of the time required (review, conferences, report writing).

We understand estimates cannot be exact, but they help us provide transparency to our clients.

5. Records & HIPAA Compliance

•Records will be shared via a secure platform (Secure File or another approved system).

•All records must be handled in strict compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines.

Imaging Review:

-Imaging files often include proprietary viewing software that may not function reliably.

-Consultants may prefer to use a consistent, reliable DICOM image viewer such as RadiAnt (PC) or Osirix (Mac) which are readily available for download and can be used instead of provider-supplied viewers.

If you become aware of a potential HIPAA violation, immediately contact: kim.smart@mdforaccuracy.com.

6. Billing: Client

MD For Accuracy handles all contracting and billing with the client.

7. Attorney & Provider Participation

Cases may involve attorneys, expert witnesses, or treating providers. Please foster clear, collaborative communication while maintaining your independent, objective role. If you question anything you have been asked to do, please contact Dr. Halsted (mark.halsted@mdforaccuracy.com) or Kim Smart (kim.smart@mdforaccuracy.com).

8. Consultation

Once we have been contracted to perform a service, depending on the project, your contact information will be shared directly with the client to foster seamless communication. This is most common when you are serving as a case reviewer or expert witness for a law firm.

9. Documentation: Case Notes & Reports

When reviewing medical-legal matters, you may be asked to write a report. Often, this occurs after you have met in conference with the handling party, particularly if you are working on a case for a law firm.

When you are asked to write a report of your opinion, we will provide you with a link to a formatted report to assist you in addressing all the common elements requested. The report is a formal, structured document that communicates the expert’s independent, professional opinion about the standard of care, causation, and damages in medical-legal matters. The exact format varies by jurisdiction, but the most common elements in a comprehensive report include the following.  As the client you are working with to define, for their jurisdiction, which elements they are requesting you address, to stay within the scope of the engagement.
